Genesis 14:18 – “Melchizedek, the king of Salem (Jerusalem), who was a priest of the God of Highest Heaven” (TLB)

The “Je” of “Jerusalem” stands for Jehovah. “Salem” means Peace (cf Hebrews 7:2)

Therefore, Jerusalem is the city of God’s peace, or where God makes peace for his people. This was the history of Jerusalem long before Jesus came on the scene.

In that place where God makes peace with men, is where Abram was going to sacrifice Isaac when God created a substitutionary sacrifice with the ram, where the angel stopped on the threshing floor from killing people during King David’s reign, where Solomon built the temple, where prophets sent by God to restore the people back to God were killed, and where Christ was crucified, restoring peace with God to all men.
